In an effort to expand home ownership, FICO has recently announced changes being made to the way credit scores are calculated. By ignoring paid collection accounts, FICO’s new credit scoring system will now place less emphasis on medical bills when calculating scores. Consumers who today are setback by unpaid medical bills could see their credit score increase by as many as 25 points. Under this initiative, borrowers will no longer be penalized for debt-collection activities which has affected the lives of millions of Americans who have been shut out of the housing market or are forced to pay higher interest rates due to flawed credit scores. The new FICO scores will be available to lenders in the fall with NAR continuing to support the efforts to broaden access for credit for qualified homebuyers.

Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be. -- Zig Ziglar
