Principal: Michelle Upton Fellow and Examiner I.D.T.A.MD.T.C.L.BTT.T.MD.TC.A.BT.T.MD.TCF.CH.Gym Diploma Michelle started dancing when she was just 3 years old. At the age of 16, she continued her love of dance into professional training at Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama in Nottingham. Here she studied all aspects of dance and also gained teaching associates in all of the 4 core subjects in the IDTA syllabus. These were ballet, tap, modern jazz and theatre craft. After completing her 3 years of training, Michelle pursued her career for 10 years as a professional dancer. She worked on various cruise ships over a period of two years before settling in the UK to work as a backing dancer for 'Stars In Their Eyes Travelling Stage Show'. In 2001, Michelle took over Steps School of Theatre Dance, which had been running for the past 25 years. During the 12 years that she has been principal of the school, she has continued to build up an exceptional reputation and standard that is recognised amongst other dance schools. Whilst building up her school, Michelle also continued her teacher training with the IDTA up to fellowship level. These qualifications have gained her a higher status in the IDTA is now an IDTA examiner. Description

Steps School of Theatre Dance established in 1975 Lessons are held daily for children as young as 2 1/2 years to adults. Subjects include, ballet, tap, modern jazz, theatre craft, gymnastics and freestyle. Examinations are taken throughout the year in all these subjects under the IDTA syllabus. The school holds a 100% pass rate with many pupils achieving honours whilst others go on to be nominated for IDTA theatre awards. Teacher training lessons are also available. Festivals A select number of pupils compete in 3 festivals throughout the year. They are encouraged to take part in these competitions to build their confidence and to give them more opportunities to experience performing to an audience. Dancers are given the chance to perform solos, duets, trios and groups alongside other dance schools. Festivals often involve pupils who show a natural talent in dance and who may be thinking about taking it further and pursuing a career in this industry. Shows Every 2 years, all pupils at Steps take part in the school show. This is held at Longslade Community College Leicester. This is a fantastic experience for all involved. Over the 2 nights the show consists of a variety of dance styles that the pupils train in. It gives all pupils the chance to show friends and family their love for dance and to experience performing on a professional stage to an audience. Pupils at Steps also take part in Various other events including local carnivals & charity events.
