Students4Kids is a sientific student competition to combat hidden hunger in Africa by Assmann Foundation for Prevention & Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. About the Assmann Foundation for Prevention Established in 2003, it is the purpose of the foundation to promote science and research as well as public health care systems in the field of medical prevention. An important objective of the foundation’s work is to present to the citizens measures of medical prevention through scientifically sound information, in order to improve their quality of life and to increase their life expectancy. Saving lifes through research and information is the foundation’s guiding principle. In addition, the foundation supports research projects in the field of preventive medicine in developing countries. Education is the best preventive measure. It is against this background that the Assmann-Stiftung für Prävention and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung started their media educational cooperation in 2014. Like in the case of both preceding projects, an Internet portal developed technically and as to contents by the Assmann-Stiftung für Prävention using internal resources, is at the centre of the current initiative “Students4Kids“. As an operating foundation, the Assmann-Stiftung für Prävention plays a leading role in all its projects in terms of design and organisation. With its detailed websites the Assmann-Stiftung für Prävention addresses both the interested layman and medical specialist circles. Focus is placed on up-to-date information with regard to research in the field of preventive medicine as well as to worldwide health policies, preferably on options for a healthy way of life as well as on opportunities for the early recognition and avoidance of the risks of serious diseases such as heart attack or stroke, dementia and cancer. The technical expertise of the Assmann-Stiftung für Prävention is based among other things on the internationally recognised research works of the founder in the framework of the most extensive, prospective, long-term observance study worldwide in the field of cardiovascular and vascular medicine (PROCAM study). Already more than 2 billion people are suffering from hidden hunger and innovative ideas are required in order to be able to fight this global challenge. We are looking for interdisciplinary approaches to overcome micronutrient deficiencies in Africa – one of the continents that is most affected by hidden hunger. In 2017 we're concentrating our efforts on the Ivory Coast after successfully launching two innovative projects in Zambia last year.

Students4Kids is sponsored and organized by the Assmann Foundation for Prevention and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. This years competition started on the 1st of February 2017. We are looking for smart ideas, creative innovations and long-term strategies. Students from all fields of studies are invited to develop scientifically sound and practical concepts, if applicable by the means of new media or innovative research, to fight malnutrition in Ivory Coast. The winner or the winning team will be awarded a grant of € 10,000 to put their idea into action. Long-term collaborations with project partners are targeted to ensure a sustainable implementation of the project.
