Great news for families! Family income splitting is a brand new tax savings measure introduced by the Canada Revenue Agency, and takes effect for the 2014 tax year. If you have a child under 18 and you and your spouse are in different tax brackets, you could be looking at an additional tax credit of up to $2,000 on filing your taxes for 2014. The Canadian government recently announced the Family Tax Cut credit to allow income sharing of up to $50,000 for eligible couples, which could result in a tax credit of up to $2,000 per family.
