Sukup Manufacturing Co. provides grain drying, handling and storage Solutions that will help improve your efficiency and profitability. History: Fifty years ago, Eugene Sukup bought his first grain bin to dry and store shelled corn. To speed up the process of drying and solve the problem of spoilage, he modified a stoker auger and inserted it in an electric drill. Then, using a chain, he hung it from the top of the bin to loosen the hot spots and prevent spoilage. Eugene began making stirring augers at a welding shop in Sheffield, Iowa and sold five units to a local bin dealer, but found that only three had sold and one of those had been returned. To be successful, his product had to be automatic. Eugene came up with the idea of adding a horizontal auger through the handle of the drill, patented the idea, and Sukup Manufacturing Co was born. Company Overview: Today, Sukup Manufacturing Co has grown to become the world’s largest family-owned grain storage, drying and handling equipment manufacturer. Since our first year of business we’ve seen tremendous growth, and now employ about 500 and operate six distribution centers in addition to the main manufacturing facility in Sheffield, Iowa. Sukup products have been sold in over 50 foreign countries. Innovation at Work: The ingenuity essential to our start has remained at Sukup Manufacturing. We hold over 80 U.S. patents and are a market leader with many of our products capturing market share in the number one or two spot for their respective product categories. Eugene has been recognized for his industry contributions with inductions into the Iowa Inventor’s Hall of Fame and most recently, he and wife Mary were inducted into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame. Product Solutions™ for Grain & People: We’ve spent 50 years developing innovative, efficient, and reliable products to meet the ever-expanding needs of grain producers. The Sukup Grain Handling and Storage Solutions™ line includes grain bins and dryers for both on-farm and commercial operations, axial and centrifugal fans and heaters, stirring machines, unloading equipment, bin floors and supports, drive-over hoppers, grain spreaders, Airway® Tubes, material handling equipment, and the most recent addition, a steel building line. The customizable, clear-span construction buildings represent yet another product Solution™ from the Sukup family. Quality People, Quality Equipment: Three generations of the Sukup family are active in the company, and work alongside an impressive group of long-term employees who understand our industry, and more importantly, Sukup products. To maintain the highest efficiency and quality, our employees are provided with top of the line tools to do their jobs. The manufacturing facilities in Sheffield house a number of welding robots, CNC machining and punching centers, lasers, and numerous roll forming machines. One of the other factors in our success is Sukup’s long-term employees. Nearly 30% of our full-time employees have been with the company for more than 10 years. The Sukup Family: Headquartered in the heart of Midwestern farmland, Sukup Manufacturing Co was founded in 1963 through innovation and ard work – two values that remain at the core of everything we do. As we look into the future, we’re proud to have three generations of the Sukup family involved in our growing business.
