Tuition is tailored to all levels, from beginner to those preparing for diplomas or entry into music colleges and universities. As a teacher of music for over 30 years, Susan Wain welcomes students of all ages - from pre-primary to retirement. A personalised programme of learning is developed in conjunction with each student. Lessons are relaxed, but focussed, so students can achieve their full potential, whilst enjoying making music.

General Info

Susan's formal music training began at the age of 12 at the Manchester School of Music where she studied piano with the unique and inspirational, Sylvia Forbes. In addition, she studied flute with Orchestral flute and piccolo player, Howard Adkins, who passed on his extensive orchestral knowledge. She began her academic studies at the Salford Music Centre where there were many opportunities for performance. Contemporary music was studied under professional musicologist, Richard Witts. Further flute studies were under the tutelage of Jennifer Hughes and Roger Rostron, flautist with the Halle Orchestra. With a joint first study in piano and flute, Susan studied for her degree in music at The Birmingham School of Music (Birmingham Conservatiore). There she developed her piano technique and repertoire with Malcolm Wilson, principle pianist with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and City of Birmingham Sympohny Orchestra. She deveoped her flute and piccolo playing with Colin Lilley flautist with The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Susan has enjoyed a long and varied career in Orchestral, Chamber, choral and solo music. She is also an accompanist for both examinations and solo perfomances and continues to play with the Warwickshire Flute Ensemble, Banbury Symphony Orchestra. She has teaching experience for one to one, small ensembles, large group and orchestral work, whole class music making and choral singing. She is currently the visiting tutor in Flute and Piano Studies to Stratford Upon Avon Grammar School for Girls. Susan is fully CRB checked. Exam pass rate - 100% including many merits and distinctions.
