The Abdominal Web - Why We Work at the Centre Imagine the navel as the centre of a spider's web. The connective tissue (fascia), which runs continuously through the body connecting all parts of the body in its various forms, makes up the "web". One of the functions of a web is to transmit information to it's centre and so early Chinese doctors noticed that problems in the body were reflected as congestion at the abdomen.
