We are Margaret and Garth, proud agrarians, and owners of Sweet Thyme Farm located in Arundel, Maine. The two of us met at the University of Maine while working towards earning our bachelors degrees, in Sustainable Agriculture. After a couple years of managing the university’s student run CSA, the Black Bear Food Guild, as well as a student volunteer run winter high tunnel, UMaine Greens, we decided that it was time for us to begin taking steps towards beginning a farm of our own. We are lucky enough to be able to farm land on Garth’s family’s property, where we are cultivating around an acre and a half of land. We grow many varieties of veggies, herbs and flowers, and keeping laying ducks. All our produce we sell at local farmers markets, and at our own farm stand, here, at Sweet Thyme Farm. We were both born and raised in the state of Maine, and share a real love for the place and it’s people. Maine has a wonderful history, and we believe an even better future in agriculture. We knew that when we began a farm of our own that we wanted it to be rooted in Maine soils, and that we wanted to contribute to the revitalization of diversified agriculture in the state. Our farm is managed organically, but since we are in our very first season of farming this plot of land we are on we're currently still seeking organic certification from MOFGA, which we should receive in the fall of this year. Beyond organic we try to farm in a way that revitalizes and improves the land that we’re farming instead of degrading it. We love the livestock we keep and do our very best to provide them with great lives, which to us means, space, sunshine, good food, opportunity for play, and compassion. Both of us are fascinated with agriculture and ecology; we’ll continue to study and experiment with varying techniques in order to get us closer to our farming goals here on Sweet Thyme Farm.
