SwingIN exists to promote the joy of swing dancing and welcome dancers from across the US to be part of the Indy swing dance community for a few days!

Description

Founded in 2008, SwingIN is Indianapolis’ one and only vintage swing dance workshop weekend and is funded by Naptown Stomp, Indianapolis' vintage dance community organization. The SwingIN workshop promotes a welcoming sense of community, while still having a strong focus on helping dancers improve their skills. During the day, you will have the opportunity to take classes from well-known and highly respected instructors in the vintage swing dance community. Classes run 4-5 hours each day and are broken up into 1-2 hour blocks. In the evening we have fantastic live music and great DJs during our social dances. These dances are the perfect opportunity to practice what you have learned and socialize with other dancers at SwingIN. In contrast to some other dance styles, our dancers are encouraged to dance with different partners every song throughout the evening. You can choose to participate in the whole weekend or select some of the a la carte options such as a dances-only pass or a single-day class pass. Another unique aspect of SwingIN and the larger swing dance community is that local dancers offer free housing to dancers traveling from out of town, much like CouchSurfing. Locals are only asked to offer open space and a shower, while dancers bring their own bedding and toiletries, and take care of their own food. Hosts and guests alike are able to network and make friends through this experience, and the favor is often returned when Indianapolis residents find themselves on the road. We do, of course, offer a hotel block for those who would prefer more private accommodations. We hope to see you on the dance floor this Labor Day weekend!
