TASN Autism and Tertiary Behavior Supports (TASN ATBS) provides the following services:
1. The Autism Diagnostic Team Training is to develop teams in districts/cooperatives that can provide diagnostic assessments to students with characteristics of an autism spectrum disorder and their families. Teams are trained on the tools used to access students for a clinical diagnosis. Teams work collaboratively with the medical clinicians at KU Medical Center's Center for Child Health & Development (CCHD) to provide timely and accessible diagnostic services through the use of telemedicine.
2. The Autism Interdisciplinary Team Training is to develop teams in districts/cooperatives that can provide consultation to teachers/teams of students with autism in their district/cooperative, conduct screenings for students suspected of having an autism spectrum disorder, and to provide trainings in their district/cooperative on ASD. This training is for team building/collaboration/planning and not a strategies rich training.
3. The Autism Specialist Summit is a training for those individuals across the state employed as Autism Specialists or those on their district's/cooperative's Autism Interdisciplinary Team. The group determines the content for the next year's Summit. The training consists of sharing innovative practices and training on a variety of chosen topics related to ASD.
4. Summer Institute, an introduction to Structured Teaching is a one week, hands-on intensive training. Participants have the opportunity to work with students with ASD, be guided by master teachers as they coach new skills, experience group learning activities, and receive three onsite follow-up visits throughout the following school year.
5. TEACCH Transition Assessment Profile (TTAP) System Regional Training is a 2-day presentation that covers the Formal and Informal assessment tools that make up the TTAP system. The training will prepare participant teams to use both forms of assessment in the development of IEP/transition goals, benchmarks, and supports for students with moderate and severe disabilities. The TTAP provides detailed information about vocational and behavioral strengths and needs not included in interest inventories.
6. The Webinar Series is a 45-minute live webinar on a singe evidence based topic that teachers, therapists and parents can implement afterwards or have a brief introduction so they can decide if they are interested in pursuing additional training on the topic.
7. Tertiary Behavioral Support trainings are provided across the state in pursuit of every student becoming a college and career-ready Kansas. We recognize good instructional practices and effective classroom management strategies. Behavior and academic outcomes are highly correlated. It is not effective to continue to speak about and address each in isolation. Instead the message should be continuously communicated that when academics and instruction are discussed, so too is behavior and social-emotional learning.
