Description

The design, led by Newark-born architect Richard Meier, brings together three charter schools, a daycare center, 205 residential units (pre-marketed to Newark's teachers); and an exciting array of retail establishments. This historic project has been years in the making; a true partnership of the City of Newark, the State of New Jersey, local and national financial institutions; and entrepreneurs.

The phase one Teachers Village project consists of 8 low-rise mixed-use buildings located on five city blocks bounded by Broad, Market, Washington and Hill Streets. Three buildings are currently under construction and will be occupied this fall. At full build-out Teachers Village will include: • 250,000 sf of residential in 205 units of residential housing • 65,000 sf of high-quality retail (20 different businesses) • 90,000 sf of charter schools (3 schools in 3 buildings, serving approximately 800 students) • 11,000 sf of daycare, servicing approximately 150 students.
