HHSC oversees the Texas health and human services system, which includes five state agencies: Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) There are several ways to apply for benefits: • Go to www.YourTexasBenefits.com. • Call toll-free 2-1-1 (or 1-877-541-7905). Pick a language and then pick option 2. Staff can help you Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. • If you need to visit an office, you can find one near you by either: o Going to YourTexasBenefits.com. Click on “Find an office” at the top of the page. o Calling 2-1-1. Pick a language and then pick option 1. If you have a complaint about your benefits case, you can call 2-1-1 or 1-877-541-7905. If you still need help, contact us by either: • Going to the Office of the Ombudsman’s website http://www.hhsc.state.tx.us/ombudsman/ • Or calling the Office of the Ombudsman at 1-877-787-8999 (toll-free). The mission of HHSC is to maintain and improve the health and human services system in Texas and to administer its programs in accordance with the highest standards of customer service and accountability for the effective use of funds.
