The Texas Tech Victory Bells, music to our ears! On this day in 1936 the Victory Bells rang out for the first time on the Texas Tech University campus. The bells, donated by the senior class of 1936, rang during that year's graduation ceremony. The first time they rang following a victory came on Sept. 19, 1936, when the Texas Tech football team defeated Texas Wesleyan 26-7. Thank you class of '36 for starting this wonderful Texas Tech Tradition! #SupportTradition https://youtu.be/KDg8yGxbUYs

Tommy Martin recently had this to say about this post. " In the Spring of 1967, Rob Brown took some of us young Throckmorton High School students to the Tech Rodeo. I remember watching the slack, probably on a Friday night, and Craig Haythorn threw a steer in 3.3 and Matt Davis tied a calf in 9.1. Those times were pretty sudden in 1967. Both won the go round. Matt was roping off of old "Dunnie". A few months later, I roped off of "Dunnie" at Stamford. We spent the weekend with Matt and Craig and their roommates. Although I had some "Aggie" ties, that weekend made me a "Red Raider" for ever. Unbeknownst to him, Rattler Mahaney may have had a little bit of influence in my decision." Thanks Tommy for sharing your story. Stories like this are what makes Texas Tech Rodeo! #wreckem #gunsup Texas Tech Alumni Association

Today we honor those military men and women who bravely served our country and lost their lives while doing so. It is because of you paying the ultimate price that we may have the freedom we do in this wonderful country of ours. #MemorialDay Photo credit: Texas Tech University Office of Communications and Marketing
