This apartment is located in the De Pijp district in Amsterdam’s Old South. The area is largely residential and is home to cafes and restaurants that serve up genuine international cuisine of not only Dutch and European styles but also Syrian, Moroccan, Surinamese and Turkish. There are plenty of grocery stores to pick up international ingredients so if you love to cook this is the right neighbourhood to be in. De Pijp is also a popular nightlife spot, filled with bars, restaurants and cafes. The Albert Cuypmarket is a short distance from the apartment and this Amsterdam institution sells everything you could ever need. Just a few minutes from the apartment is Sarphatipark, a great space to come on warm days for a picnic or barbecue and there is a play area for children. It certainly isn’t as bustling as nearby Vondelpark making it a great place to relax. The apartment is close to the Amstel, the river from which Amsterdam derives its name. The river itself is stunning, filled with beautiful buildings and charming bridges, including the skinny bridge, only minutes from the apartment. A walk along the river is high recommended. Take in the view and a drink at one of the many charming cafes or restaurants that line the banks, such as café Hesp, an Amsterdam institution with its charming interior and wide range of beers. Just a short distance from De Pijp is the Museum Quarter, home to several of the city’s largest museums including the Van Gogh Museum, Rijks Museum and the Stedelijk Museum. The district is also home to the Concert Hall and numerous bars, cafes and restaurants. Vondel Park, the largest park in the city, is also just a short stroll away. This park is certainly livelier than Sarphatipark and you never know what will happen, with numerous people engaged in numerous activities on any given day. If you are a beer lover, why not visit the former Heineken Brewery, just a short distance from the apartment and although it no longer brews beer, you can take the tour and learn the history of the brewery and beer itself.
