A spacious Georgian town house overlooking the cobbled, tree-lined thoroughfare of Kirkgate in the conservation area of Cockermouth. A perfect place to stay whilst exploring & enjoying the Northern Lake District and West Cumbria.

Description

Following it’s renovation and refurbishment in 2001, it is light and airy with unusual features in all the rooms adding to its charm and character. We hope that visitors will feel comfortable and at home within its walls. The kitchen leads off from a spacious, functional dining room and the comfortable lounge is reached across the original tiled hall and features a coal effect gas fire and television with a DVD player. Upstairs, the master bedroom has two single beds, a fitted wardrobe, and a dressing table area. The decoration is on classic lines and the original cast iron fireplace is still a feature of the room. The side bedroom has a single bed and the room is decorated in fresh colours with contrasting furnishings. The double bedroom at the rear of the property has a low ceiling and an interesting window. Its floral decoration echoes a cottage garden. The warm and welcoming bathroom is well appointed and has a shower over the bath. Visitors also have access to the small, well maintained patio at the rear of the property. There is also off-street parking available for one car on the cobbled area at the front of the house (please note that due to this being a conservation area the cobbles may not be suitable for all vehicles). Shops, public transport, restaurants and the town’s tourist attractions are all within a short walking distance. This centrally heated property is an ideal base for exploring the northern lakes in either an active or leisurely manner. The west coast of Cumbria also holds many attractions and is equally accessible.

Cockermouth is an historic market town dating back to Roman times and set where the River Cocker joins the River Derwent. The town’s Main Street is wide and tree lined with many examples of Georgian architecture including Wordsworth House, the birth place of William and Dorothy Wordsworth. Cockermouth is indeed the gateway to the Northern lakes and mountains. It is an ideal base for exploring and can feel less crowded than the busy Lake District towns of Keswick and Ambleside. It is also near the Solway Coast, the historic city of Carlisle, the Roman Wall, the Scottish Borders and even Gretna Green. The central Lake District is also within easy reach by car and bus.
