3rd Brigade is located at Lavarack Barracks. It shares the base with a second Army Brigade, 11th Brigade. 3rd Brigade currently consists of the following units:

- 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment
- 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment
- 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment
- 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment
- 3rd Combat Signals Regiment
- 3rd Combat Service Support Battalion
- 4th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery
- B Squadron, 3rd/4th Cavalry Regiment
The barracks are named after Lieutenant General Sir John Lavarack, an Australian Army officer during both World Wars and Governor of Queensland from 1946 to 1957.
3rd Brigade Mission
3rd Brigade is to generate combined-arms capabilities in order to support known/ potential operational commitments and enhance Army's Foundation Warfighting Capability.
3rd Brigade is a unique formation with many skills that are not held elsewhere in the Army. As a Multi-Role Combat Brigade, we excel in rapid response and manoeuvre. We can move strategically and tactically air, land or sea.
3rd Brigade is one of Army's Combat Brigades. It is a highly potent and versatile fighting formation trained to defend Australia and its interests.
3rd Brigade is in the Ready Phase of Army's Force Generation Cycle. This means it will provide the bulk of individuals and force elements to known operations and contingency tasking. To maintain this readiness, 3rd Brigade pursues a very deliberate and intensive force generation training program.
Under Plan Beersheba 3rd Brigade is at the forefront of force modernisation programs designed to create a far more potent and versatile Army and Australian Defence Force.
3rd Brigade provides Army, the Australian Government, and the Australian people, with highly potent, versatile and responsive forces trained and equipped to confront a broad range of operational contingencies.
3rd Brigade enjoys a wonderful relationship with the people of Townsville, Townsville enterprise and the broader NQLD community. 3rd Brigade soldiers consider themselves part of, and key contributors to, the community they live in.
3rd Brigade acknowledges and values the vital supporting role provided by friends, family and the broader community. We could not maintain our readiness without this support.
3rd Brigade is fortunate to be located in tropical North QLD. Its location affords a wonderful lifestyle to its soldiers and their families.

2014 marks the centenary of 3rd Brigade. Since leading the landing on the Gallipoli shore to the Afghanistan mountains, 3rd Brigade has provided dedication to defending Australia and her interests. And our commitment to serving the Townsville and Australian people will continue long into the future.
