Description

On your marks... get set... DRINK! The annual 5 Shot 5K began as an event for a handful of drinking buddies to dress in ridiculous outfits, run to various downtown Omaha bars, and get tanked while also getting a workout (sort of). It has since grown into an event for anyone who even kind of runs and likes to drink. The event convenes at the Old Market Tavern to do some pre-race liver warmups and stretches, and begins with the first shot. Participants then run at a mild pace as a group to three more bars, taking a shot (or more) at each, before reaching the finish line at Eat the Worm, where the fifth, but certainly not last, shot is taken. It is traditionally held in September around the first or second weekend, where the weather is still favorable but not unreasonably hot. Costumes are encouraged.

How To Get to 5 Shot 5K

If you plan on getting as drunk as I do, call a cab. Or better yet, get a hotel downtown and call it good.

Fourth Annual 5 Shot 5K Location: Begins at Borgata Brewery and Distillery, ends at Eat the Worm Time: Meet up around 9:00 PM, the race will begin at 10:00 PM Attire: This year's theme is "I shouldn't be here..." You can interpret that however you want. The more creative, the better! And you'll probably want running shoes. We really do run. Girls will probably want to ditch your large purses for smaller wallets that you can easily carry. I will have a backpack for anyone who doesn't want to carry phones, wallets, etc. Cost: $25 - You can pay the day of, or ahead of time via PayPal to bdetweiler@gmail.com with the Subject line 5 Shot 5K or something of that nature. Frequently Asked Questions Q. Do I have to run? A. Yes! If you want to hang with us. Otherwise you can just hang out with us before and after the event. Q. But I suck at running... A. That's not a question. But really, we don't care how good of a runner you are. We run as a group, so you won't be left behind. Q. What does $25 get me? A. SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!... SHOTS! SHOTS! 5 of them, including gratuity! Q: OMG like, do you puke LOL? A: Most participants have reported feeling amazingly sober by the 5th station and actually had to do a few more shots of tequila to start feeling it. We attribute this to the effect of exercise having a sobering affect, as documented in this episode of the Mythbusters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mmJMIwsaDQ Science! It works, bitches! Q: What do I do with all my things while I'm running? A: Well, don't bring anything too large, first off. But for things like phones and wallets, I will have a backpack to hold anything you don't want to run with. You can always get it out at one of the bars along the way. Q: How long is the run? A: Given the fact that we aren't driven by times, and we spend at least some time at each bar, our typical 5K time ends up being around 45 minutes. To put this in perspective, mall walkers can cover this distance in less than a half hour. It's not about the time, it's about the ADVENTURE!
