Description

Built in 1959 The Berwick Inn was the last piece in the construction jigsaw of the then newly formed estate of Sneyd Green, Sneyd Green estate was built to re-house residents from near by Etruia before the re-generation started just after the War. The land known as Sneyd Green was all farm land previously owned by the Nobblett family who lived in Noblett Farm which was originaly sited on what is now Noblett Road, today the estate is home to over some 7000 plus residents with The Berwick being at the heart of this close community. The bricks that were used to construct the pub were made by the Sneyd Brick works company who's Family also owned Sneyd Deep Pit at Sneyd Hill, the current owner of the Inn Mr Danny Poole who's grandfather 'Bill or Snowy' as he was known actually bought the bricks from the factory on the back of the very first artic lorry in staffordshire this was also owned by the brick company as both he & his son Billy junr both Worked for the Company & Mr Poole Snr himself a former etruscian also moved from Etruia to his brand new house in Tyrell Grove with his wife Ivy & sons Billy & Jimmy. he lived there from 1953 to 1982 when he died, in fact his son Jimmy, grandson Danny & great grand son Billy Junr still live in Sneyd Green today. Danny purchased the Inn in 2012 with the main aim of keeping the well known much loved Pub at the heart of the comunity for the people of Sneyd Green & since taking the keys he has certinaly been busy keeping to his promise with massive investment both outside & inside alterations and this summer will see the opening of the newly constructed Beer Garden. We would like to wish him & his family all the best in his task.
