The Black Hill Hotel is two minutes from Ballarat’s CBD, with ample off street parking. Tradesmen's utes with trailers accommodated. It is cosy and warm in winter and comfortably air conditioned in summer. The beer garden provides a great place to enjoy the outdoors while remaining under cover. The well appointed Function Room provides space for those special occasions, business and other gatherings. The hotel, originally named “The Royal Oak” was established in 1864, nearly 150 years ago, to cater to the needs of the miners at the nearby Black Hill mine. Much smaller when first built, it has been added to on several occasions to reach its current size and format. The name “Black Hill Hotel” was adopted around the 1960's.. The Black Hill Hotel is proud to be "my local" for people in and around the district, The pub, incorporating the Bistro, provides a friendly, casual place to relax, catch up with friends and family and enjoy a meal and beverages.
Getting to the Black Hill is easy. Simply catch a Black Hill bus from the city, or toward the city if you are approaching from Black Hill or Ballarat North. The bus travels along Peel Street and there are stops either side of the road within 100 yards of the front door.

MUSIC SUNDAYS. - the weather was turned on beautifully for us yesterday. AZIO ROCKED the Black Hill Hotel - first Sunday for 2015. We made it through the festive season safely and enjoyed some time with family and friends. Back to normal now - as we said recently, still on break regarding Music Sundays as a lot of musicians are taking a break themselves. Update on our Holiday hours: We are opening at 4.00pm and serving dinner on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 We are closed as usual on Monday 29 We are opening at 4.00pm Tuesday 30th, serving dinner, and also Wed 31st (New Year's Eve) We are closed New Year's Day then - back to business as usual. Next Music Sunday will be on 18th January, when we have AZIO coming to play.

Last Sunday was the last gig for 2014 and we enjoyed a cracking afternoon with The Copycats from Ballaarat. Tiki and I were happy to get to bed after a very busy week, but it was great fun and we had lots of people there enjoying the music and catching up with friends. Our next MUSIC SUNDAYS is on Sunday 18 January. AZIO is coming to play and we are looking forward to another great afternoon.
MUSIC SUNDAYS - great afternoon with Tangent last Sunday - in addition to the band, Simmo did a bit, our favourite flautist had a blow and they all raged on until about 7.30. Well, it's time for us to go. Gus Raschilla, of Table 48 fame, is now the publican at the Black Hill Hotel. Tikki and I have faded into the sunset (or somewhere akin thereto). Winter with a vengeance! Oh well, that's Ballarat for you - I'm still waiting for that snow that everyone keeps telling me will happen soon. Never mind, the pub is warm and cosy, the fire's going, the meals are hot and tasty, we have a good selection of reds and you can also get a cold beer to help warm you up.
Thursday is also "Local's Night" - come and be a Black Hill local - meet a few of the neighbours, have a couple of bar snacks - and a meal if you fancy - and generally join the community.

The weekend's been fun - the Murphys enjoyed a 70th birthday for the patriarch of the house. Darren turned 50 and celebrated with family and friends. His pet python, Brigitte, didn't get a guernsey this time, though she has been known to curl up around a bar stool in the past. We had some new friends come over from Sebas on the other side of the city for some drinks and pool - welcome to them.
Thursday Trivia came and went - it was a good night, but guess what. THE JACKPOT is still there and up to $150 for next Thursday. Grab a couple of friends and join in.
