In 1924, Helen Taylor Bush founded The Bush School on a simple, yet powerful, principle: trust. By trusting students and giving them freedom to take responsibility for their learning, she provided an education that honored students’ interests and passions and provided the skills and attitudes necessary for lifelong learning, accomplishment, and meaningful contribution to their communities. Today, nearly 90 years later, The Bush School maintains the values and vision of its founder, educating young people to be good students and good human beings. The school teaches students to be critical, independent, and creative thinkers, to be ethical in their judgment and action, and to be culturally competent global citizens. These educational foundations together with our culture of compassion, kindness, and high expectations prepare students exceptionally well for success in college and, fulfilling our most vital promise, with the means to lead productive and meaningful lives and to be engaged ethical contributors to today’s global society. Our challenging, progressive educational program and our culture inspire students to learn beyond conventional expectations and to take responsibility for their education through active engagement in experiential learning opportunities in and out of the classroom and by developing collaborative and meaningful partnerships with teachers and peers.
