Yet ANOTHER spectacular review of BeCOMe aka Brick City Open Mic hosted and produced by my brother Halashon aka Hala Be ThyName. Revierw by Kease Houston: The Become event at the Coffee Cave Last Night Was one of the best open mics I have ever been.. I really enjoyed the spectacular live music and many different artists I got to see. I will be talking about it on my show when I go on the radio this weekend! See u in Feb! !!
Another great review of Brick City Open Mic....Brought to The Coffee Cave by Hala Be ThyName. by Steven Baker: An Open Mic is a tremendous resource for an artistic community. The best of them can become a mini music scene and a focal point for networking, collaboration and moving art in new directions. For months I have been aware of this one starting and it is clear that the originator, Halashon has been thinking about it’s organization and implementation because he was so well prepared and had every aspect covered. In my opinion the January 8th event was a huge success. The venue Coffee Cave couldn’t have been more welcoming allowing the event to be moved from the cavernous back room to the comfort of the coffee house because of the cold. The place was very inviting and the owners bent over backwards to make everything perfect for the audience.Their food was phenomenal and the staff was busy all night serving wonderful sandwiches , soups and drinks very reasonably priced. I think the event was a big success , packing the place on what would have been a light frigid winter night. How an Open Mic is administered is everything. The list was handled intelligently facilitating the diverse group of poets, rappers ,singers and players participating. MC duties were performed with style enabling the right setup, sound and cue. There are many technical considerations at an Open Mic.The supremely adept band, versed in all Urban genre elevated the level of professionalism of the night .These guys were as good as anyone you’d hear, inviting others to jam, supporting them in such a generous way.The talent at the event as you’d expect was very diverse and I would recommend this Open Mic to ANY act looking to get up in front of a very supportive attentive audience. I hope this Open Mic grows to become all it can be. Support it because it’s very unique and precious. Support the Coffee Cave too so they can make a buck and continue to host the incredible talent of a City reinventing itself so it will not become another gentrified sanitized metropolis. It felt great to be there.
Coffee Cave House Music is an ever evolving work in progress. From the Backyard to the Backroom. From cement pavers to a super smooth (baby powder not required, but allowed) floating wood floor. Investments have been made to improve ventilation, sound, decor and more. Our food and lounge ambiance has been consistent- and the art on display gives our regular patrons a refreshed vibe every several months as exhibits come and go...And let's Not forget to mention the rotation of DJ's who have played here since 2008 and are on the roster for 2014. As usual we have our established A-listers as well as future A-listers on rotation. Resident parties from Jihad Muhammad, Ian Friday, Lou Gorbea, Josh Milan, Merge (Yuko & Diego Sans), Zandy Shejay, Jibril, Motherland Movement and Floorwerk - Blending Local Homegrown Talent From NJ, NY and around the world. Tonight @TheCC, we bring you something new but tested...The Premier of Afro~Rico with our newest residents but long time musical maestros RashiemAhmed and DJFM. At CCHM we strive to support the local and international scene...simultaneously taking a top down and bottom up approach so we can all share our love for the music in the middle. The launch party for Afro~Rico is tonight, 10pm. And I want to stress that admission is FREE between 10 and 11pm, $10 after 11pm. In other words we are asking maximum participation to give these 2 brothers maximum opportunity for jumping this thing off in 2014....Afro~Rico explores our rich cultural heritage through the love of house music. Long live house music and diversity! See you on the dance floor!
