Girls night tomorrow. Hope lots of you lovely ladies make it down for a drink.
Syd are playing this Saturday night. Looking forward to attending as a customer with the wonderful Dave W in charge of the bar while we have a few days off.
We've had some great quiz nights at The Crown, but I have to say last nights music quiz was one of the best. Gordon did a fantastic job, ably assisted by Dave on the guitar for a round of live intros. Lisa did her magic in the kitchen and the whole evening was a huge success. Thank you to everyone for coming. Can't wait to do it again.
We have a couple of lovely events coming up in July ... 4th July – Music Night with The 2 Strokes, very popular local band. 18th July – Music Quiz with Pop Master Gordon ably assisted by legendary guitarist Dave Froker. Ploughmans supper at half time. Only a few spaces left, so please book soon.
For the first time in months, Roger and I had a Saturday evening off together. After a lovely walk by the Thames at Hambleden, we had dinner in one of our all time favourite pubs, The Stag & Huntsman. It's actually where we had our first date, 26 years ago. We didn't think we'd get a table, and were very surprised when we turned up to find there were less than 20 people in the three bars and gardens at around 8pm. We had a lovely dinner, then made our way back, passing several country pubs on the way. Intrigued by the lack of punters in Hambleden, we drove very slowly past The Frog at Skirmet, The Chequers in Fingest, The Bull & Butcher in Turville, The Cherry Tree in Kingston Blount, and all three pubs in Chinnor ... all of them were virtually empty. So, dear friends, it's no secret why village pubs the length and breath of the country are closing down. Nobody comes out to drink on what should be the busiest night of the week. If only the people in those villages knew that having a viable pub in their village adds £20K to the value of their properties, they might act differently. Who knows where it will all end?
Sydenham Fayre tomorrow with BBQ in the pub afterwards ... Yay! Fayre 2pm to 5pm ... see you there.
Only one week to go to the highlight of the year in the village ... next Saturday, 6th June, is Sydenham Fayre day. The pub will be open all day and we're having a BBQ in the evening. Please comment if you're coming to the BBQ so that we can make sure we have enough food. Looking forward to seeing everyone and we really hope the weather warms up a bit!
As there's no "evening do" after Sydenham Fayre (6th June) this year, we're going to have a BBQ in the garden starting around 6pm, once the fayre has been cleared away. It will be a very casual evening. We'll provide the sausages, burgers and bread. Please feel free to bring along pizzas for the children (the BBQ pizza stone is amazing!) and salads to share. Please let us know if you're coming along so that we can cater accordingly. Date for your diary – Music Quiz Saturday 18th July. Our excellent quiz master Gordon is turning Pop Master for the evening. We can look forward to some excellent music and even better sing alongs as the evening progresses. Tables get booked up very quickly, so please book early to avoid disappointment. We're planning to have more live music at The Crown in the coming months so look out for details on here and the pub boards. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Good Friday at 5.30pm, we're going to have an Easter Egg hunt in the pub garden. Lovely family fun event ... it may rain so bring your raincoats kids. Next Wednesday 8th is Knit Night ... come on down knitters for an evening of knitting and nattering ... from 7.30pm.
That was the most hilarious half hour I've ever spent behind the bar ... 18 Jaeger Bombers followed by 18 Tequilas ... Roger needs to go to the cash & carry tomorrow!!
Don't forget ... it's Midsomer Murders Sydenham episode this week. Come and watch with us at The Crown. Let's hope it's better than the last one. Can't wait!
England vs Wales, Friday night from 7.30pm. Come and watch the rugby with us while enjoying a beer or two. Next Wednesday, 11th Feb, is the Sydenham episode of Midsomer Murders filmed at The Crown and throughout the village last summer. Come and see it with us from 8pm.
Still recovering from a fantastic New Years Eve party last night. Thanks to everyone who made it such fun. Haven't danced so much in years. Happy New Year to all our friends and customers.
It's a bit late but we wanted to say huge thanks to Gordon for his fantastic quiz on Boxing Day. It was a super busy night and we thank all the villagers, their families and friends who supported us on the night. Congratulations to Pauline's team who won two lovely bottles of champagne, donated by Roger.
Had the best night ever in the Crown tonight for Fiona & Mark's 25th Wedding Anniversary. The pub was full to bursting. Lisa created the most amazing food. Lucy & Ella kept the food & drink flowing all night. And Roger's Christmas lights looked spectacular. Thank you to everyone involved for making the night such a huge success.
All ready for the big party tonight ... Christmas lights will be turned on ... let the festivities begin!
Tables & chairs have been moved to make way for Syd tonight. We can dance til we drop. Looking forward to a great gig.
Only one week until it's Music Night with local band Syd. We're looking forward to rocking the night away with Ken, Dave and the boys. Come along and share the fun with us next Saturday, 8th November.
ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: We are delighted to tell you that local band SYD will be playing on the 8th November. It promises to be a great night of music and fun. Put the date in your diary now ... we look forward to seeing everyone.
