We have a venue and a date for our first school day! We have preliminary booked the HEART Centre in Headingley and we aim to start on the 5th September at 10am and have a lesson every other week. We will have an adult group and a group for children, but will review these as we'll find out the requirements for each group. We will confirm the location, dates and fees as soon as possible. Please put this in your calendars and come along to join a lesson or just a chat with other Finns! Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible to get the school up and running! -- Tero (Chair)

I have been sending private messages to those who were not in the first meeting but have voiced their interest in the Finnish school in Leeds. However here is the message in case I have missed someone or there are others that are interested. Please read the message and reply to me by private message or email at jenna.koskivuori@gmail.com Same message below in Finnish. Hello there! Thank you for your interest in the Finnish-school/language lessons. We are trying to get together a list of pupils to see how big space we require for our school, how many teachers and how much we need to charge per term. At the moment, we are trying to map out the location for the school and suggestions have been only in the Headingley area (because no one at the meeting knew from other premises) Heart Centre, or a church facilities are in consideration. (If you have any information about good, cheap premises for use as the school tell me! Approx. £ 10- £ 15 per hour) Could you initially tell how many pupils, age and language skills from your family would participate. For example, from my family: under 1-year old for the childrens group and my partner for non-finnish speaking adults group. If we get enough adults together there will be adults group too, and currently there is a healthy interest so fingers crossed. Lessons would be every other Saturday. If there are any questions or thoughts please get in touch. Greetings Jenna Hei! Terveisin Jenna

The Finnish Saturday School in Leeds has launched! Thank you for all of you who came to today's set up meeting. It was great to see such enthusiastic people, all wanting to help out to make this happen. We still have a few things to sort out before we can fully start with the lessons, but with the school's first elected committee in place, we'll work through the list and post updates here when we have them. It was decided, the school will be run on school term time alternate Saturdays at 10am - 12 noon. We're still going through options for premises, so no news on the location just yet. One of the key questions for us is the number of adult and child pupils, so we'll start collating a list soon. But it's not just about the school. We want to create a hub for social activities for Finns and people interested in Finland. So, we absolutely welcome you even if you just want to pop in for a coffee and a cake and a chat with other Finns. I truly believe we can get this school started, so please watch this space. And let us know if you can help out or are interested in joining us. -- Tero (Chair)

Finnish Saturday School – Leeds – Set up meeting 30.5.2015 10am-12midday The meeting will be held at The Square and Compass pub, North Rigton, LS17 0DJ. Please note that this is not where the school will be located this is just for us to have our one-off set up meeting. We hope you all did notice and remembered to put this date up in your diaries for the meeting regarding the Saturday School for Finnish culture and language in Leeds. The aim is to create a positive social environment for individuals and families that are interested in all things Finnish. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a suitable location for the school and find out the size of the group we are getting together and its requirements. A group for adult learning is proving to be something people are often asking about too. Please do come to the meeting to discuss further or do get in touch with Jenna or Tero before the meeting. However, if you cannot be present at the meeting and you are interested in the social, learning or teaching aspects of the school please do get in touch that we can get our numbers of participants to be as accurate as possible. We will also inform you with what was discussed and decided in the meeting and keep you up to date with details. Again please get in touch with Jenna or Tero to show interest and to ensure we have your details to keep you updated. We are hoping to have the school on the opposite Saturdays to the Manchester School just in case people would like to attend both schools. The main language in the meeting is English and everyone is invited to join. Regards, Jenna Koskivuori and Tero Väänänen Jenna.koskivuori@gmail.com tero.vaananen@iki.fi

Tervetuloa! Koulun suunnittelu on alkanut ja ensimmäinen kokous toukokuussa - toivottavasti mahdollisimman moni perhe olisi paikalla, jotta kaikkien toiveita ja ideoita olisi edustettuna. Sopisiko 30.5.2015? Jos tämä ei sovi, ehdota jotain muuta ajankohtaa. Saisin varmasti ilmaisen tilan kokousta varten pohjois-Leedsistä vaikka toivottavasti koulu olisikin etelä-Leedsissä, jotta koulu on Sheffieldin suomalaisia lähempänä.
