http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16550955 Great article backing up more reasons why we should nasal breathe. I exercise almost exclusively through my nose. This means I have less need to rehydrate and I feel better after exercise. It also limits my ability to "over-breathe" or over do the exercise (since I do not run faster than my nose breathing capability) and so allows ideal oxygen / CO2 balance. When cells are better oxygenated (Bohr Effect) they work better.... less muscle cramp in the case of exercise - since energy production with good oxygen supply leads to less lactic acid production. This is one reason why people can recover from asthma by taking up swimming - as it's not possible to "over-breathe" when your head is under water.
