The Independent is a premier live music venue in San Francisco that opened its doors to Bay Area music lovers in February 2004. Centrally located in the NOPA/Western Addition neighborhood, The Independent has state-of-the-art sound and light systems and the best venue staff in the city. Celebrating its 1000th show in August 2009, The Independent is an appealing live music environment for the audience and musicians alike. Having recently celebrated its 7-year anniversary, The Independent has played host to many of the best up and coming and diverse bands from around the world. SF Weekly's Best of 2010 issue voted The Independent as the Best Sound System (Live) in the Bay Area. All events at the Independent are 21 and over. GREENING The Independent promotes positive change by proactively reducing our venue’s environmental footprint. By making our internal operations more sustainable, we seek to educate and inspire our employees, patrons and bands to become more environmentally conscious. Our environmental objectives are focused on three key areas: waste diversion, conservation, education and outreach. Our conservation efforts were recognized by the SF Small Business program with a nomination for best small green business of 2009. In addition, we are on our way to becoming the first green rock venue in the country through certification by the SF Green Business Program.
