General Info

I have spent over half of my life coming to deeply understand the origins, maintenance, and recovery from addictions. Near the end of my 23-year military career I completed my Master's in Counseling and Human Development. I was fortunate that the Navy assigned me as the program manager for a U.S. Navy Substance Abuse clinic in Europe. Even then I recognized that traditional outpatient treatment programs failed to address long-term recovery in biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions. Since I retired in 2001, I have been a licensed alcohol and drug counselor in Nevada in private practice. Primarily though, I have been teaching Alcohol and Drug Counseling at the university level. I have come to understand and appreciate the challenges that individuals and families with addictions face, and offer an approach that is alternative, holistic, and the most hopeful model available in addiction recovery. Recovery starts with the acknowledgement that "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired." This applies to those suffering from addiction, as well as those in relationship with them.
