ABOUT THE LAUREL FUND Founded in 2000 by Elvi Moore, former General Director of The Washington Ballet, The Laurel Fund for the performing arts was established with three goals in mind: first, to promote all of the performing arts and make each accessible to all segments of our community; second, to assist, encourage and nurture young artists particularly from diverse communities in our city; and third, to instill in these young artists the spirit of giving back to their community. The Laurel Fund for the performing arts has awarded scholarships to dozens of young artists; presented Capital Talents, a showcase of talented young performers; and presented the Dance Theater of Harlem Ensemble two years in a row. The Laurel Fund for the performing arts is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501a of the Internal Revenue Code as an organization described in section 501(c)(3). As such, it is able to solicit and accept contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations to support its scholarship and community outreach programs.
