Tucked away on St John Madermarket in the beautiful Norwich Lanes we are a contempory fine dining restaurant.
As you may have already gathered, Norwich isn't very thin on the ground when it comes to places to eat. What makes the culinary offerings in the city exciting though, is the variety. Just around thecorner from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, and a handful of other restaurants, is the unique and charming Maddermarket Kitchen. Fine dining but, as we like to see it, fine dining without the stigma of fine dining. It's contemporary, it's informal and more than anything, it's hugely welcoming. Hidden away on St John Maddermarket, this beautiful old merchant house once played host to giant vats of dye, swelling with the bright red colour of Madder (yes, that is where the name comes from). Now, the building is home to braised ox cheek, superior fish and chips, spicy liver crostini and everything in between. But expect that to change regularly, Maddermarket Kitchen like to keep not only their food fresh, but their menu too, mixing it up every couple of days. They've also recently created the Madder Mash Kitchen, taking the same ethos of using fresh local ingredients and making everything from scratch. Beer Tapas, pairing beer with food and popping up at the Mash Tun Pub. Like so many other places in this guide, The Maddermarket Kitchen is a real personal endeavour and a debut restaurant for owner Stewart Duffield. 'Stewart started cooking at a young age as his father ran a catering company. His lifelong ambition has been to open up his own restaurant where the quality of the food and setting conveyed his passion for quality and taste.' Luckily for us (and you), this passion certainly shines through. If it's a three course meal with your family, a celebratory night out or a light lunch with friends, Maddermarket Kitchen will welcome you with open arms and outstanding flavours.
