The Marchutz School of Fine Arts offers MFA and undergraduate programs at the IAU College in Aix-en-Provence, France.
The Marchutz School of Fine Art offers an Arts core curriculum each semester, and summer term as well as a 2-year Master's Program, promoting meaning in the Arts informed by historical inquiry, and the synthesis of sight and insight. In 1928, German-born Leo Marchutz (1903-1976) came to Aix-en-Provence to see the motifs of Paul Cézanne. He would stay in Aix the rest of his life, and became a foremost authority on the work of Cézanne. Marchutz was also an innovator in the fields of lithography, painting, drawing, and art education. Like Cézanne, who advocated study from nature and study of the masters with almost equal fervor, Marchutz saw the path to artistic self-discovery in the same dual allegiance. In 1971, with assistants Billy Weyman and Sam Bjorklund, Marchutz helped found a school of Drawing and Painting saying "What we need is a school of vision." The Marchutz School of Fine Arts maintains a mission to develop students' individual capacity to see, and to discover, recognize, and discern the nature of art itself through a study of the artworks of multiple cultures and generations.
