Description

The National Missing Persons Coordination Centre (NMPCC) is a non-operational arm of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and was established in 2006 to drive national coordination in response to missing persons in Australia, and to complement the investigative role of State and Territory police. Its mandate is to reduce the incidence and impact of missing persons in Australia. The NMPCC is the host of the national register of long-term missing persons. As part of its mandate, the Centre also works to educate the Australian community and raise awareness of the issues and impacts of missing persons in Australia; particularly vulnerable groups at risk of going missing. This is done through campaigns and programs such as National Missing Persons Week, proactive media engagement, and education initiatives such as Day for Daniel (Morcombe). The mandate of the NMPCC is to reduce the incidence and impact of missing persons in Australia.
