I have a bunch of what I will loosely call 'crafting supplies'. Does anyone have a good school/program/teacher I could donate to?
It's one of those days in the shop where everyone is spectacularly kind . . . thank you. :)
Dads who call their daughters 'sweetie' are the cutest ever.
Super nice testimonial on the garment series . . . thanks, Brooke! "I really enjoyed the garment series because it got me sewing on a consistent basis. I rarely plan time for sewing, but this allowed me to hone my skills over 6 weeks and to complete garments that I had always wanted to learn how to sew (pencil skirt)! Having weekly interactions with Rachel (the instructor) and the other students really helped to drive home the skills that otherwise might not have stuck. I also loved the social aspect of the series, each week we all shared stories about wearing our garments, which was very fun. It is always nice to get a compliment about what you are wearing, but it is so much better when you can say 'thanks, I made it!'"
I find "Will this work for pants?" one of the hardest questions to answer. PantsWorld is a big place!
Heads up! We're closed tomorrow for Labor Day. Open today until 6p, if you're up to sewing this weekend.
Is anyone curious about shapewear (spanx and the like)? As you might imagine, I spend a lot of time talking with women about their bodies. Everyone, and I mean EVERYone, has a lot of criticisms and very few compliments for themselves. One thing coming up a lot in the garment series is Spanx. To me, spanx are not an admission of being overweight. They're about smoothing. And, so far, I have not met a woman of any size who doesn't point out some 'bump' she doesn't like. And, dependent on fabric - especially those gorgeous, supple knits we all love - bumps just might be revealed. Try some spanx (or one of the many other brands)! No shame! I get the inkling that many women think of it as a failure of some kind, or an old lady thing, but I wanted to encourage anyone who's curious to give it a shot, or at least ask about it. This is no kind of actual endorsement of any particular product, I just happen to have tried every piece of shapewear under the sun. And, if you have some experiences to share - please do!
Just a friendly reminder to be kind to your local business folk. Chances are they're working their booties off to give you just what you want, even if they don't always succeed. :) #retailishard
