Ocean Legacy Foundation is an international non-profit organization which utilizes spatial mapping, education and research, clean-up expeditions and plastic to fuel technologies to develop the world leading Marine Debris Solution Centre. This dynamic and integrative approach combines sustainable technologies with education and skills training to give all plastic wastes economic value and communities the long-term tools they need to steward their environment. Our on-line platform allows people from around the world to showcase their ocean health initiatives, find allies, and share plastic polluted Hotspots with GPS coordinates, pictures and stories. This illustrative database can be used for international media exposure, research, education and direct action purposes. Once Hotspots have been reported we can work with communities to develop educational tools, waste diversion programs, and technologies which include plastic to fuel to post-processing to manage wasted and marine plastics. On-line to action! Plastics-to-oil conversion technology can be used to convert plastic wastes including marine debris back into a valuable fuel source. This unique approach offers economic incentive to clean up the natural environment as well as presents a sustainable alternative to landfills, some conventional recycling practices and creates waste management strategies in countries where practices are lacking. Our long term vision is to assist local and international communities that do not have the necessary provisions to develop tools such as long term education, shoreline clean-up efforts and plastic to fuel technologies. All parts of our global community must be considered and included in a international remediation strategy if current rehabilitation efforts are to be effective and succeed. We are dedicated to co-creating an Ocean Legacy that supports healthy living ecosystems for present and future generations. Adopting educational and clean up efforts as well as innovative technologies is one solution that will create positive long-term changes to ensure an enormous percentage of current waste plastics are processed on land and diverted from shoreline and ocean water ecosystems. For more information explore our website www.oceanlegacy.ca The Ocean Legacy Foundation has a primary mandate to research, educate and demonstrate the socio-economic and environmental benefits produced by managing plastic material streams that are treated as part of our Urban & Remote Waste Plastics Program. These objectives will be undertaken using environmentally sustainable Best-Practice strategies with proven technologies that are available to The Ocean Legacy Foundation.
