<p><b>The Palms Shopping Centre</b> is a shopping mall located in the <a href="/pages/w/109638929053987">Christchurch</a>, New Zealand suburb of <a href="/pages/w/105719869462476">Shirley</a>, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from the city's <a href="/pages/w/105348492832551">CBD</a>.</p><h2>Description</h2><p>The mall consists of 110 retailers, including the first <a href="/pages/w/103131489726843">Reading Cinemas</a> <a href="/pages/w/108323719191361">multiplex</a> in <a href="/pages/w/109638929053987">Christchurch</a>. In 2003, a $50 million <a href="/pages/w/107003019338626">NZD</a> upgrade was completed, nearly doubling the size to 34,000 m. The entry plaza of the mall won an NZILA Silver award for landscape design in 2004.</p><p>The Palms was damaged in the February <a href="/pages/w/212466778769866">2011 Christchurch earthquake</a> and remained closed for over six months while building reinforcement and repairs were carried out.
