Time for a new photo album. This time it is for Fluffy one of our most kissy bucks :)
We will have babies available this weekend. Please see our Available Photo Album for pictures. All babies from Arrow and Lefty are $5.
It was a very sad morning today. Went to peek in on the Soft Furs and found she had lost the entire litter :( She did not eat them, though, which is a very good thing. It looks like she just was not producing any milk and/or the babies got too cold through the night.
We just had our first African Soft Fur rat litter! It looks like she had 12 babies. I am not going to do any moving around to be sure, though. This is the moms first litter and she is in with another pregnant female and the male. So far it looks like all 3 of them are helping to take care of the babies. I might take pictures in a couple days if all goes well :)
Today is a very sad day! Sad to say but The Rodent Express is no longer. After being given full permission to have our rats and ASFs from our landlord the county stepped in and told her "Rats carry "Rat Fever" and our a health hazard.". We were given a week to get rid of all the rats or be evicted. Not being able to risk eviction we just sent almost all of our rats to a local pet store where they will most likely be used for snake food :( After working hard with our ASFs to breed out aggression, I can say non of ours bite now and over half can be handled. I was hoping that withing the next couple generations they would be fully handleable. Unfortunately, after thinking we only had to get rid of the rats, cause that is what we were told, they told us the ASFs "look like small rats so they have to go as well". So we now have a month to get rid of our ASFs and the few rats we are holding that have deposits on them. Today is a very sad day here, indeed :(
I know it has been awhile since we have posted here. Sorry about that. We hope everyone had a great Christmas. If anyone is looking for African Soft Furs we have a bunch ready to go. We have been focusing our breeding on temperament and creating a strong ASF Pet quality line. As with most rodents are males are much calmer then the females. Non of them bite (male or female) and they all love to be pet and given attention. The males just seem to like to be held where the females prefer to stay in their tubs to be pet. We have Saddled Pied in Agouti, Cinnamon (Dilute Agouti), and Cinnamon Argente (Pink Eyed Dilute Agouti). We are looking for Solids in any color. Also looking for Platinums and any other new colors out there. Trades are also welcomed. We have put a great deal of time and research into our ASFs and are dedicated to becoming one of the top breeders of Pet/Fancy Soft Furs. Have an awesome New Years!
We have Nakeds available! Sorry no updated photos yet :( We are simply adopting them as "Nakeds" right now because we can not confirm if they are Hairless or Double Rex yet. These were accidental breedings. Moms came to us already pregnant so we don't know who the dad is. We have 2 separate litters. Males and females. $15 each.
Quick Update: We have a number of 5-6 week olds that we will be posting pics of as soon as we get a new camera around the 1st. As for new litters we have 3 nursing litters of Hairless or double Rex (need to do some test breedings to confirm which) and 1 more on the way. Our Fawn doe unfortunately only had 2. 1 was massive and stillborn the other we will be keeping. We also have 2 Siamese x Siamese and a Siamese x Black Berkshire breedings taking place as I type this :)
New updates coming soon. We have several litters that will be ready for new homes here over the next couple of weeks. Will have some photos going up over the next couple of days. We still need to get a new camera so the photos won't be the best but at least you will get to see the babies :)
We will be breeding both African Soft Furs and Rats in 2015. Rats will be limited. We currently have some 5 month old Siamese females. Also have 6 week old Agouti Variegated & Berkshire males and females.
