"The Suites" are at 115 Wattle St. at the top of the hill in the old Belgravia district in the centre of Bendigo. The well known View Street arts, sports, entertainment and restaurant precinct and the central business district is but a "stone's throw away". Although close to the centre The Suites provide a tranquil haven with a relaxed yet sophisticated style. "The Suites" are two individual queen size self contained suites with large kitchenettes and bathrooms. They occupy the complete lower ground floor of Villa Belgravia with their own dedicated private courtyard and portico entrance areas from Wattle St. Villa Belgravia's history is entwined with that of the affluent goldfields priest Dr Henry Backhaus and the property enjoys special views across the skyline of his legacy, one of Bendigo's renowned landmarks - The Sacred Heart Cathedral. The "old Belgravia" district reflects the wealth and flamboyance of the gold rush period with many historical residences still reflecting the grand architecture and lifestyle of that incredible era. Villa Belgravia was built in an Italianate style with large rooms featuring large archways, marble fireplaces and large bold plaster features. The suites have been restored and updated in the same Italianate European style. The Suites logo, the image of the scallop, became the symbol of the traveller back in the 13th century. It indicated protection and refuge for travelling pilgrims and traders. It became a part of the adornment of the property by the architect W C Vahland in 1889.
