The last few days have given me a chance to reflect on what it is to be a Windsor Boy? A Windsor Boy does not deal in mediocrity he strives to be the best, competing with all the great educational institutions in the exam hall, on the sports field, in the music halls, debating chambers and of course on the river. To be a teacher at Windsor Boys' is to want your students to succeed to work hard, give up your time and provide opportunities that other state schools cannot match. We are non selective and we do not charge fees, but what you get at WBS is just as good if not better than anywhere else at every facet of school life. Well done to the rowers and the athletes this weekend you have shown the world what Windsor Boys' School is all about and I would like to thank you for that, now for the next big challenge !! Very proud of our great school this week, sadly defeated by a superb Sir William Borlase crew in the final of the Fawley Challenge Cup, but a tremendous effort by all nonetheless ... Uno Animo
At 4pm, The final race of the 2014 Henley Regatta is the final of the Fawley Challenge Cup - The Windsor Boys' School vs favourites Sir William Borlase #giantkillers
I would like to spend a small amount of your time to let you know of another fantastic piece of sporting news for Windsor Boys’ School at the national schools athletics where WBS represented the South West of England. After a full day of events in which every boy has to compete in two events (1 track and 1 field) Windsor finished 8th in front of private school sporting giants Whitgift. To take on the athletics schools of Fitzwymarc and Southend is always a step too far for our limited budget and resources however the boys competed with professionalism and class. No more so than Niall Unegr who placed 1st in the 800m and more impressive Jake Norris who is new English Schools Athletics Hammer record holder after throwing a massive 73:52metres. He broke a record that has stood for 7 years and I sense it will be a long time before that record is broken again. Not only this, but with his 44points in the hammer and 19 points in the 200m he is the highest scoring individual in the entire country. Although 8th may not seem a excellent result, to put it into perspective, it makes The Windsor Boys’ School the 8th best athletics team in the entire country. Back in June, over 150 schools took part in opening rounds and having won both county and regional rounds (including a demolition of Millfield on their own turf) they fully deserved their place in the final. The boys involved are; · Jake Norris · Niall Unger · Michael Hassany · Aaron Maggs · Matt Forder · Oliver McGregor · Andrew Warner · Jude Compton – Stewart · Bayley Campbell · Sonny Hazel · Brad Samways · Alex Lisle · Alex Haydock – Wilson · Jack Davies
