I got to see them at Big Day Out a couple of days earlier, which was great... but seeing them up close and personal blew my mind." Jeremy Neale, Babaganoüj, WAAX and Born Joy Dead will takeover the stage tonight, tickets are still available at the door. ***Please Don't forget we are also making a care pack for the local homeless, so if you have any spare - soap, toothpaste, socks, toothbrushes bring them along and donate - YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE .... you just have to begin. hope to see you there. always Joc.x
You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with, can you tell i am feeling a tad nostalgic today. zooies - someone who has worked at the zoo in it's life from 11.12.1992 - present day and beyond ...... this is a snap shot of just 10% of them. They are a breed unto themselves, they are fierce, loyal, hardworking and if you ever see on a resume - i worked at the zoo you know you have found gold. always in my heart Joc
So one of our very own zoo legends Dom Miller , who along with Ruby Jean at Bluebeard Music books the amazing musicians you get to hear and see when coming to The Zoo. My favourite ever show at The Zoo was Future Of The Left in (I think) January 2010 after "Travels With Myself And Another" came out. That album is one of my favourite albums of all time and the show was incredible. Not only did they play well but they had some of the best stage banter you will ever hear. They were so funny you were almost disappointed when they started playing a song. Plus it was hot. I'm not one of those people that whinges about the heat in the zoo. I embrace it, enjoy it, soak it up. It's a reminder you're in one of the best venues in the country right here in The Greatest City On Earth. F*ck aircon. (both pictures taken by the immensely talented Stephen Booth.)
Blackie. (Luke Black Dockray) In 1994 a precocious 2 year walked up the back zoo stairs in red high heels, vintage handbag in tow - into our lives. To say this young man changed us is an under statement. What followed was years of chats, time spent together, colouring in, hanging out until Black was the ripe old age of 5 and did what all young boys do - go off to school. However that did not end the friendship it evolved into homework club and outings. When Black turned 10, he asked if he could come and work with us, we got permission from his mum & dad, rang liquor licencing, and got him a tax file number. He worked at our famous "Dub Sessions" every saturday afternoon, he got himself dressed, on a bus and arrived on time! (he also had a saving plan for when he finished school) Then at 15 Blackie went out into the world as a casual worker, he worked not one but two or three jobs at once. He has always had drive and determination. Upon his 18th birthday he returned home to the Zoo and has been with us ever since. Being one of his three mothers - myself, C and Michelle we could not be more prouder of the young man he has become. Blackie has literally spent his whole life connected and a part of the Zoo and we are enriched because of that. So come Saturday night when i hand in my zoo keys, so to is Blackie bidding us adieu. He is again going forth into the world and seeing what it has install for him. I wish for him everything a mother could, love, happiness, friendship and just to have a wonderful life. I never planned on being a mum at 27 but Black was a gift sent to me and I am thankful everyday. always traveling in my heart Joc xo

flecks of gold. we asked the lovely Jeremy Neale what his favourite Zoo show of all time has been and he shared this reflection - "I've had a lot of good times at The Zoo but i think my most fond memory is of seeing Ben Kweller in 2009. I had a solid party night, the sound was brilliant and then I got to meet the legend afterwards. A perfect example of what The Zoo does best - world class entertainment with an intimacy that often enables you to meet your musical idols. Top shelf." Jeremy Neale along with Babaganoüj, WAAX & Born Joy Dead will be creating a few of their own memories in 6 sleeps times. Friday 24th June. (limited tickets still available)
These dapper lads are currently vibing the room. Plenty more good vibes to come from Rivermouth & The Mouldy Lovers 🎶
TONIGHT... After lying low for the first half of 2016, Brisbane's premiere ska/punk band The Mouldy Lovers are returning to the zoo to launch their brand new single, Civilised Crossfire! Written in response to the news that the federal government was sending Australian planes to bomb targets in war-torn Syria, The Mouldy Lovers' latest musical effort forms a vicious critique of the military industrial complex. Come raise your fists in support tonight - and experience an incredible lineup too, feat. Rivermouth, the multi-cultural explosion that is MZAZA & The Steele Syndicate! March down for an 8pm open - presales only $10, $15 at the door.
Reud Mood warming up the room with a quality sound check 💯
one person is all it takes just one or maybe two ...... who believe in you gives you a chance and allows you to follow your dreams a quarter of a century ago, two young girls named C.Smith and Joc Curran got that chance because of a Valley couple - George & Helen Apostolos, they took a chance on a pair of young photographers who had a dream to open up a cafe. Life is a series of trials, chaos, happiness, all of it. I have tried to live my life by paying that kindness forward, so when people cross my path and need someone to believe in them, i hope i can be their one person. always Joc.
Experience more of our #BestofLocal series T O N I G H T with the mindbending, ambient grooves (and epic sex hair!) of Reud Mood. Reud's deuds will be joined by the high-energy fun of The Bassethounds & Sunhaus' anthemic alternative!
We can't wait to host the Best of The Zoo//Lita and The Bones//Silver//Farewell Joc show this Saturday night. Lita and the Bones' new single 'Silver' is an emotive, slow burning blend of indie, folk & roots - have a listen. The band will be joined by Soviet X-Ray Record Club, Jake Whittaker Music & Steve Tyssen. PS: Surprise special guests: Arnie and the Muscles 😂
Reflecting ! I found this picture while doing some tidying up and it made me smile and cry all at once, you know those moments. Two of my favourite people in the whole wide world. Ian who i get to talk to and laugh with and share my life with and Grant who i was lucky enough to call a dear friend. We met by chance when i was 16 years old at my college orientation dance at Gatton in 1984. (you can imagine) and then again through The Zoo in 1995. So if there is someone you haven't connected with lately and you miss them and you love them - give them a call today. Life is too short !! Always Joc.
We've got a very special & unique event coming up in September - Peter Freestone, best friend of the legendary Freddie Mercury, will be coming to The Zoo to share rare photos, memories & anecdotes of all things Freddie & Queen! We are so psyched for this one!
Coming up... Music Is My Muse Brisbane & Vincent & Jules are celebrating their first birthdays together @ The Zoo Sat, August 6 with a killer bash! Feat. Being Jane Lane, RAWR VANITY, The Wandering Lost & Sera, this is gonna be a heckuva party.
