Colorado Springs connections are well represented in NYC at the moment. The Director of the Theatre Program and Prologue Producer, Kevin Landis led a "prologue" style conversation with the stars of the Theatre for a New Audience cast of A Doll's House featuring John Douglas Thompson. The same cast is in the The Father which also features Nigel Gore, who was last seen at THEATREWORKS in Women of Will.

We love these glimpses into the creative process around our community! Actors discuss the first reading of a new adaptation of Agamemnon to be produced by THEATREWORKS next season ...
David Mason, former Colorado poet laureate, discusses his new adaptation of Agamemnon at a first reading with actors. We're going whole hog for Greek in a year or so, a truly epic journey. Fabulous.
Congratulations to THEATREWORKS, recipient of the Joe Schipiacasse, Do the Right Thing Award at our 2016 Annual Awards Dinner. Our 2016 Portraits and Masterpieces calendar was made a reality because of the generous use of costumes from THEATREWORKS. The willingness of the costume department to collaborate with The Arc Pikes Peak Region exemplifies strong community partnership. Congratulations to the UCCS graduating class of 2016! #UCCS2016 #UCCS #UCCSTHEATRE AND here's to a SOLD OUT closing weekend of "Girl of the Golden West!" You git 'em, girl!
Six more nights at the Polka Saloon as our Girl heads into the final weekend. Here are seven reasons to catch it if you can: 1. CAITLIN WISE—Our Girl is giving the performance of the year in a role where she has to hold her own against 19 guys. Great acting makes you more intelligent, and as the Girl Caitlin allows us to understand how a human being can be naïve, savvy, hilarious, tragic, melodramatic, adorable, sassy, spunky, and sensational all at once. She’s alive in every instant. 2. DAVID BELASCO—the playwright who entirely dominated the American stage for many decades has disappeared from view. This production gives us a rare glimpse into state of the art theatre of a century ago, and while many of its elements now seem familiar, there are real pleasures of language and culture you won’t find anywhere else on the American stage. 3. RACE— racism is unfiltered and ubiquitous throughout. Asians are “chinks,” Mexicans are “greasers.” Indians say “ugh”, and are given ribbons as rewards and sent off to their wigwams. That’s likely the way the white miners were in 1849, and the play seems to take no notice. It’s no big deal, and apparently nothing to trouble your mind over. Until one stunning, quiet moment in the last act. And then there it all is. 4. THE MELODRAMA—When’s the last time you saw a classic melodrama played straight? No moustache twirling, but wild swings between comedy, suffering, hope, despair, and a sensational scene with blood and three aces at the play’s climax when everything is on the line. Now that’s theater! 5. THE BOYS—We’ve got 19 men on stage and they are all terrific. Many of them have acted together for decades; theyr’re comfortable in their own skins and with each other. You could say they were born to play in westerns, and now they have their chance. They’re making the most of it. 6. THE AMBIENCE—We have real trees, an amazing revolving set, snowflakes and a great house band. But they play in the back room, and they are so active and yet they never call attention to themselves, always supporting the action on stage. Mark Arnest playing the song of the 49ers under the tender last moments of the show is simply quiet perfection. 7. THE YEARNING—underneath the melodrama and the western atmosphere this is a play about yearning. Yearning for romance, for rising up and becoming something more. It’s fair to say the entire play is yearning to become an opera. And way out west dreams come true.

"Girl [of the Golden West] rises above the ordinary. This is a gem. They have taken an obscure script from a century ago, dressed it up in a beautiful set, and zealously brought it to life...I expected melodrama. I didn’t expect inspiration." A genuinely wonderful review, plus great call outs for our amazing cast. Git yer tickets today at www.theatreworkscs.org.
"...the night is a genuine feast of romance and tragi-comic turns." Don't miss the feast! Tickets on sale now, and many remaining performances are sold out. www.theatreworkscs.org
