Vietnamese food blog and supper club
I was born in Vietnam, in a small village in the south of the country, called ‘Hanh My’. After the war, life was a considerable struggle for the whole region and so like many others, my family was forced to leave our home and start a new life. We were one of the few, fortunate enough, to be able to start that new life in London. England is an amazing country and London a beautiful city, and having been living here since I was 7, it is without doubt the place that I call home. For those who know me well, food (OK…and shoes and bags!!) has always been a huge passion of mine. A delicious meal, with seconds and maybe thirds, makes a very happy Thuy indeed! My mother often reminds me that my love for food started almost immediately after birth. Never satisfied with just having my own dinner, I was always after my sister’s portions too (by that, she meant…. snatching.... Sorry sis!). Till this day, I can still vividly recollect my childhood in Vietnam and as far back as I can remember, I have always been surrounded by food. My grandparents were farmers, so I grew up with animals running around, a wonderful variety of fruits hanging from trees, morning markets full of freshly picked vegetables, and amazing smells of traditional street food. I often find the smell of certain foods will take me back in time, back to when we had so little, and yet everything meant so much. Now, if you will allow me, I would love to share these wonderful foods with you!
