Hi, I’m Tina the plumber. Welcome to my Facebook page. I qualified as a plumber, gas fitter and drainlayer in Victoria, 25 years ago. Becoming one of Australia’s first female plumbers wasn’t a walk in the park but it taught me resilience, developed my creativity and instilled professional values and skills which have served me well. When I first qualified I struggled to find employment as a plumber. This wasn’t helped by a building industry in recession nor by employers asking for my “husband’s” employment history when I rang to apply for jobs. Long story, short, I ended up going to university where I supported myself financially by plumbing, mostly for university staff. Lectures and labs during the day, followed by studies and plumbing of an evening and weekend. I did really well, gaining first class honours in physics. This led to further professional training and a ten-year career in secondary teaching. I have a passion for real-life, applied learning and I saw glimpses of that same excitement in my students. Most people, even adults and academic types, learn by doing. Unfortunately large class sizes and limited resources meant that those hands-on eureka moments were few and far between. And so in 2010 I stepped sideways into working as a plumbing tutor in New Zealand. I loved teaching plumbing students both the hands-on skills and theoretical underpinnings of their trade. Personal reasons have brought me back to Australia. I moved to Queanbeyan in July 2014 and have set up my own plumbing business. In 2015 I'll be plumbing part-time, doing a bit of casual teaching and also studying part-time at ANU. Back to doing what I love. Teaching, plumbing and studying! I am available to do small - medium sized plumbing jobs. Anything from changing a tap washer to installing new plumbing fixtures to repairing leaking and burst pipes. I like fixing things, only replacing them if they’re beyond repair, or if that is what you want. I especially love restoring old taps and plumbing fixtures. I’m good at it and can do it cost effectively. I'll give you a free quote up front, turn up when I say I will and communicate clearly with you as the job progresses. I want to exceed your expectations of service from a ‘tradie’.
