Hello! My name is Tommie Travers and thank you for visiting my page. I approach all lessons in a structured and enjoyable way, and I like to treat every student as an individual. I am a very open minded teacher and believe anything is possible if you set your mind to it! I'm happy to work towards ABRSM or LCM graded qualifications, but am also happy to tailor individual lessons to match my students' needs. I also like to encourage students to look at different styles such as rock, musical theatre, pop, jazz as well as focussing on basic improvisation skills, which can develop a completely different side to their musicianship. Singing or learning a musical instrument can be such a fun and rewarding hobby, and can be a welcomed break from maths and English! The benefits really are endless. I am a professional pianist, composer & musical director, and have been involved in the Edinburgh music scene for almost ten years. Over this time, I have performed as a soloist and as an accompanist, and have conducted over 100 performances of hit musicals including Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera and Sunshine on Leith. In 2010, I co-founded Captivate Theatre - a local Edinburgh theatre group. Since then, the company has rocketed, and is now reputed with producing some of the best amateur theatre in Edinburgh. As musical director, this allows me a great insight into the world of musical theatre and ultimately strengthens my knowledge of music and the industry as a whole. A huge part of my job is teaching young children - over 100 per week! - and broadening their understanding of music, its history and its theory. I also work with a lot of teenagers and adults too, and feel I have a strong rapport with all ages. This year, three of my very own musicals will feature in The Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Brave Macbeth, Romantic Romeo and Cheer Up, Hamlet are new works - all designed to introduce children to the works of Shakespeare. The shows are fun and accessible, and great for all the family! Lessons are taught from my home in Leith, and I have hundreds of music scores and access to many more. Pupils will be taught in my newly refurbished study which is practical, comfortable and welcoming. I would encourage hour-long lessons where possible, and these will be charged at £20 per hour.
