--- Expect a Line Up
Having earned a consistent spot on the Georgia Straight’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Sushi since it opened, there’s no doubt Toshi Sushi is a Vancouver favourite. The line up for a table is also a good indication this is a hot spot for fresh fish. The restaurant is small and the décor minimal, but the food is what keeps people coming back.
Check in your name on the waiting list, look how many names above your name on the list. If there are lots of names already, then go for a coffee, walk among the Main street, or go 2 blocks west to the beautiful park for 30 mins ~ 1 hour and come back to the restaurant. Your table might be ready. If standing queuing up isn’t your thing, you can also try take-out.
------ Fresh Fish
Famous for its house roll with the avocado on top, Toshi pleases customers by offering some of the highest sashimi grade fish in the busy Vancouver sushi market in both creative and traditional ways. While some Japanese restaurant’s fill sushi rolls with rice, at Toshi you’ll find Maki overflowing with an abundance of fresh fish. The service is quick and friendly, if not rushed because the place is so packed. Meanwhile, those who want to watch the expert sushi chefs show off their superior knife skills can watch from a front row seat at the sushi bar.
----Among the Best in the City
Toshi seems to be a make just about every Best Sushi list you’ll find in the city. You may have to wait quite a while for a table, but as the saying goes: Good things come to those who wait. One taste of the Japanese delights at Toshi and you’ll see this place is really all about good things.
