Trade School LA is a volunteer-run community organization that offers classes & workshops to the public using barter instead of money. All are welcome.

Description

Trade School is an alternative, self-organized school that runs on barter. The Los Angeles chapter was started in 2014 and will host its first month-long session of classes in May of 2014. Here is how Trade School works: 1) Classes at Trade School Los Angeles are taught in exchange for barter items from students. For example, if you teach a class about building a website, you might ask students to bring one of the following: guitar strings; a paperback novel; a bag of fruit; or help with something like finding an apartment. Each class's barter may be different, as each instructor sets their classes' exchange. 2) Students sign up for classes by agreeing to bring 1 barter item from the teacher's request. 3) On the day of class, students and teachers gather in a space that is made available by the Trade School organizers. Students give barter items to the teacher, and class begins. Trade School is a place to learn with other people who value practical wisdom, mutual aid, and the social nature of exchange.
