Did you know today is LCDR Bradley Cook day in Durham? The mayor proclaimed it! For real. Pastor Taylor was there at his retirement ceremony and saw the proclamation from Mayor Bill Bell. Congrats to our own Brad Cook on 21 years with the Coast Guard!

Easter Sermon Series May 3 1 John 4:7-21. We Are Change. “Dear friends, if God loved us this way, we also ought to love each other”(4:7). The resurrection change is not confined within our individual selves. It is an unstoppable force that God has let loose on the world. By grace, we can be part of that force for change when we engage in acts of mercy and engagement with our community.

Easter Sermon Series Apr. 26 1 John 3:16-24. We Are Changing. All that God has done in us and in the world through resurrection is not yet fully realized. For example, “...if a person has material possessions and sees a brother or sister and need and that person doesn’t care -- how can the love of God remain in him”(3:17)? By grace, we are becoming the person God would have us be.

"The good news is not that Jesus helps us to be 'more _______, with the blank filled by whatever value, virtue, or ideal we choose to adopt. Rather, the good news is that Jesus himself is the goal and the gift." Join us this Sunday for more of this sermon, the second in a series on resurrection and First John.

Easter Sermon Series Apr. 19 1 John 3:1-7. We Are Changed. “We are now God’s children…”(3:2)! We are in relationship with Jesus. So now, as the resurrection was an utterly complete change in him, it becomes a complete change in us and in all creation. In him, we have been made right with God(3:7)!

Easter Sermon Series Apr. 12 1 John 1:1-2:2. We Need Change. The world needed, and still needs, a complete overhaul. Nothing less will do. Everything must change if this world is to be the way God would have it be. Only something so radical as the resurrection of God in Jesus Christ will suffice. Otherwise, “we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1:8).
