Growing up he learned to bake bread the same way his ancestors did using old world recipes. Upon moving to America in 1962 and settling in Chicago, Turano started out by delivering his freshly baked bread door to door. As the people of the community began to request more bread and the name of Turano spread by word of mouth, Mariano decided to team up with his brother, Eugenio, and expand the offerings to French & Vienna Breads, Kasier Rolls, and Mamma Susi’s Pizzas. Before long, local grocery stores and restaurants were requesting the bread as business began to boom. After establishing themselves just west of Chicago in Berwyn, IL, Turano began delivering to other Midwestern locations such as Michigan, Indiana, and Southern Wisconsin. Turano instills family tradition into their business, delivering fresh bread to more than 10,000 Midwestern and 5,000 national customers daily. In addition, the company operates bakeries in Georgia and Florida, while supporting over 40 of the top 100 national chain operators. The Turano product line now consists of over 400 quality breads and baked goods. Today, Mariano’s sons Renato, Umberto and Giancarlo manage the business with the help of devoted employees, managers and Mariano’s grandchildren. The next generation of the Turano family eagerly contributes to the company’s success with the same passion, determination, and enthusiasm of their fathers, while still maintaining the tradition of quality and artisanship their grandfather started almost half a century ago. In addition to delivering fresh bread daily throughout the Midwest, Turano also services the entire nation with frozen, par-baked and fully baked bread products.
