TVC - Toronto Volleyball Club

Welcome to TVC. We are a group of Muslims that strive to enhance the sport of traditional volleyball in Toronto and grow.

Description

TVC was formed in 2012 by Kabir Arifali Datoo and Ali Kanji of Toronto, Ontario. Practices were held twice a week at the Jaffari Community Centre (JCC). The team was disbanded within less than a year due to other priorities and commitments from players and organizers. The team was reformed once again with the support of the Datoo and Mohamedtaki families in June, 2015 and the team participated in their first Ramadhan Tournament in July, 2015 at the JCC and fought to Quarter Finals. This was and still is a monumental and crucial year for TVC because of the enthusiasm of various players across the city who wanted to compete and improve their game on a weekly basis. Hats off to Ali Remtulla (Team 786ers) who started the trend of volleyball in 2010 to be played amongst the youth in our community within the Shia Ithna Ashari Muslims. This has grown to such an extent that which has grown to an extent that TVC was developed through inspiration to provide another door of opportunity for players to compete. The team is coached and trained by legends throughout whom play for different teams but partake in our practice when they can for the passion that they share in the game. Such players are Hassanali Ladha (TVC), Sajjad Khimji (RK'S), Faisal Bhanji (Toronto North), Muslim Hasham (United Stars), Ghulamali Kara (Jafferys Sports Club), Muna G.G. Merali (Jafferys Sports Club), Mehboob G.G. Merali (Jafferys Sports Club), Adil Moledina (RK'S), Nizar Tarmohamed (TVC) and Ali Kassam (Jafferys Sports Club). Our goal as a team is to flourish and value this remarkable sport that originated in East Africa, India, and Pakistan. The game is usually played within the Ithna Ashari Muslim, Bohra Muslim, Ismaili Muslim, Punjabi, and Hindu communities worldwide. Traditional volleyball varies from indoor gymnasium play, outdoor play on sand, grass, or clay, as well as street volleyball for recreation. We look forward to see you at future tournaments and local practices, and we sincerely appreciate the support through everyone's prayers, encouragement, and attendance.
