1. Organization

The U of S Ballroom Dancing Club was started in 1964 by two Nigerian graduate students. Membership was about 30 people. In the mid- seventies, interest in dance was on an upswing and in 1977, membership was limited to 1,500. We now have more than 800 members and are one of the largest clubs on campus. You do not need to register with a partner. Dancers are encouraged to change partners regularly in class, so even if you don't have a partner, you are encouraged to join. In addition, dances are intended to be social occasions. Women are encouraged to ask men to dance and members to ask instructors to dance. It is a great opportunity to dance and make new friends with all those present.

Description

Registration occurs in September of each year and we follow the University calendar offering weekly classes September through March. We hold 5 dances throughout the year plus 2 workshops for members (one in each term) that will focus on a specific dance. Beginner members are offered two "beginner dances", one in each term, open only to beginner dances as a way to allow you to dance with others at your level and feel what it's like to be on a dance floor.
