Description

Established in 1966, UC San Diego Health is the only academic health system in the San Diego region and is widely recognized as one of the premier health care systems in the United States. Its clinical facilities include UC San Diego Medical Center - Hillcrest, Thornton Hospital, Moores Cancer Center (one of only 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country and the only one in San Diego), Shiley Eye Institute, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center (San Diego’s first comprehensive cardiovascular center) and the Jacobs Medical Center (slated to open in 2016), as well as other primary and specialty practices of UC San Diego Medical Group located throughout Southern California. UC San Diego Medical Center-Hillcrest, UC San Diego Thornton Hospital and UC San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center operate under one license, with a combined licensed capacity of 565 beds.
