The Garden is approximately 600 square feet of university land devoted to growing organic produce and educating about healthy living. We love volunteers!
Located at Cullen and Wheeler, the Campus Community Garden is devoted to growing organic produce and educating campus and community members about healthy living. All of our produce is donated directly to local food pantries and facilities serving low-income families and individuals. As is required to be organic, our produce is not treated with pesticides or herbicides. Rather than using chemicals for pest control, crop rotation practices are implemented in the garden. Each type of plant changes location the next time it is planted to trick pests like insects and deter disease from spreading. Crop rotation methods also help the soil health. The garden requires regular visits by volunteers who assist in harvesting, weeding and planting. To volunteer, attend any of the scheduled events on the garden’s Facebook page. Contact us directly by calling 832.842.9051 or sending an email to gardening@uh.edu.
