About our rescue :- The UK German Shepherd Rescue ( UK GSR) is a national volunteer based rescue covering all regions of the United Kingdom. We are an organisation passionate and dedicated to the welfare of the German Shepherd breed. How we got started :- The UK German Shepherd Rescue was formed by Suzanne Syers on the 17th September 2010 with only a handful of volunteers. The rescue was formed at a time when strict rules dominated the rescue world, which meant dealing with them was often an unpleasant experience leaving adoptee's jumping through hoop only to be turned down. Suzanne decided to start her rescue after seeing first hand the frustration of dogs loosing out on some really good homes, dogs that would continue to sit in kennels for many more months. With a wealth of rescue experience it was the perfect time to start a rescue that not only bent the rules but added some much needed common sense. The UK German Shepherd Rescue abbreviated to the UK-GSR was born. Volunteers from other rescues soon realised the UK-GSR was setting the standards that other rescue would soon follow and joined our rapidly growing UK wide network of volunteers. The UK-GSR gave a fresh new way to rescue and adopt using something has simple as common sense, this new approach paved the way for the UK-GSR to grow from strength to strength. On the 17th September we had one dog for adoption, a white German Shepherd called Honey who was rescued from being put to sleep in a local pound. Today the UK German Shepherd Rescue has been averaging rescuing & rehoming 500 dogs a year. Today we have over 400 dedicated volunteers that all share the same passion for the German Shepherd breeds and without their help this rescue would not be possible. To rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted German Shepherds throughout the UK.
